Where the Canopy Structure fits
Covering a space without enclosing it: entrance canopies, walkways, parking shade, loading areas and assembly points. Steel or tensile covers in cantilever or column-supported forms, depending on whether supports are acceptable within the covered area.
Canopy Structure vs the alternatives
Cantilever canopies leave the covered area completely clear of columns, which is what you want over a driveway or a loading area, at the cost of much larger foundations to resist the overturning. Column-supported canopies are far more economical but put supports in the space. Against a full building, a canopy provides shade and shelter without walls or the cost that comes with them.
Specifying a Canopy Structure
Tell us the area to cover and, critically, whether columns are acceptable within it, since that single answer changes the structure and the foundations completely. Confirm the required clear height, particularly for vehicle access. Give the location for wind design, and say whether the cover is steel sheeting or tensile fabric.
