Where the Fire Rated Rolling Shutter fits
A fire rated shutter is not chosen the way the other variants are. It appears on a drawing because a fire strategy requires a rated barrier at that opening: between a warehouse and a packing hall, across a basement car park, between production and storage. Its job is to hold back fire spread for the rated period so that compartmentation works and people have time to leave.
Fire Rated Rolling Shutter vs the alternatives
It is not really an alternative to the other shutters, and should not be substituted for one on cost grounds or specified in place of one for convenience. The functional difference is that it must close when the alarm sounds, so it is interfaced to the detection system and descends under control rather than simply being driven shut. That interface, and the testing regime that follows it, are part of the product rather than accessories to it.
Specifying a Fire Rated Rolling Shutter
Start with your fire consultant or the approving authority, not with us: the required rating and the position of the barrier come from the building's fire strategy.
