What the Manual Rolling Shutter is, and who it suits

The Manual Rolling Shutter is a type of rolling shutters used across warehouses, factories, cold stores and commercial buildings. It is built to order at our Neemrana plant, installed and commissioned by our own engineers, and supported afterwards with spares and maintenance. See the full Rolling Shutters range, the sectors we serve, or every product line.

Where the Manual Rolling Shutter is typically installed
  • Warehouse and distribution-centre openings
  • Factory and production-floor entrances
  • Cold stores and temperature-controlled rooms
  • Clean rooms and pharmaceutical areas
  • Loading bays and dispatch docks
  • Commercial building entrances
What to send us for an accurate quote
  • Clear opening width and height (the daylight opening, not the wall opening)
  • Lintel / headroom above the opening
  • Side-room free each side for guides and motor
  • Power available at the opening: 230V single-phase or 415V three-phase, 50 Hz
  • Approximate cycles per day
  • Any fire-rating, temperature or hygiene requirement

Send these with your enquiry and an engineer replies with a drawing and a written delivery date, rather than a generic response. Talk to an engineer →

Applications

Where the Manual Rolling Shutter fits

A manual shutter suits an opening that is closed once in the morning and once at night: a shopfront, a storeroom, a kiosk, a back-of-house bay. Because the spring counterbalance does the lifting rather than a motor, there is nothing to fail electrically and nothing to wire, which also makes it the sensible choice where no power supply reaches the opening. It keeps working during a power cut, when a motorised shutter needs its manual override.

Choosing

Manual Rolling Shutter vs the alternatives

Against a motorised shutter, the manual version costs less, has far fewer parts that can fail, and never strands you in an outage. The trade-off is effort. Once an opening is wider than a normal doorway, or the laths are thick steel, lifting by hand stops being reasonable and a gear drive becomes necessary. If staff open the shutter more than a few times a day, the time spent adds up quickly and a motor pays for itself.

Before you enquire

Specifying a Manual Rolling Shutter

Measure the clear opening width and height first, then check the headroom above it for the barrel. Decide between push-up and gear operation: gear drives are for taller or heavier curtains where a straight pull is impractical. Tell us whether the guide channels can sit on the face of the wall or must be recessed into the reveal, and where you want the shutter to lock, since that changes the bottom rail.

FAQs

Manual Rolling Shutter: Frequently Asked Questions

Can one person operate a manual rolling shutter?
On a normal shopfront, yes. The spring counterbalance is set so the curtain feels close to weightless through its travel. As openings get wider and laths get thicker the curtain gets heavier, and past a point a gear drive is fitted so the shutter is wound rather than pushed.
Can a manual rolling shutter be motorised later?
It is usually possible, but it is not a simple swap. The barrel, brackets and headroom are sized around a counterbalance spring rather than a motor. If motorising is a likely next step, tell us now and we will build the assembly so the change is straightforward.
Does a manual shutter still work during a power cut?
Yes, and that is one of its real advantages. There is no electrical dependency anywhere in the assembly, so the shutter behaves identically whether or not the building has power.
How much space is needed above the opening?
The rolled-up curtain and its barrel need clear headroom above the lintel. The exact figure depends on the curtain height and lath profile, so we confirm it during the free site measurement rather than quoting a number that may not fit your opening.
Can it be locked from outside as well as inside?
Yes. Centre locks, side bolts and floor locks can all be fitted, and the choice affects the bottom rail. Tell us whether the shutter is locked by staff leaving the building or by someone arriving, because that decides which arrangement is practical.
Which regions do you install and service in?
We install and service across India, with a strong on-ground presence in the NCR & Haryana corridor (Gurugram, Manesar, Bhiwadi, Neemrana, Bawal, Faridabad, Noida, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh and Delhi) and the Gujarat belt (Ahmedabad, Sanand, Vithlapur and Mandal). See our Areas We Serve page for the full list.
Do you provide installation, spares and AMC?
Yes. We handle manufacture, installation, genuine spare parts and Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) nationwide, a single vendor for the full lifecycle of your rolling shutters.
Is the Manual Rolling Shutter certified?
Our manufacturing is ISO 9001 certified and products are CE marked for clients who require it.
