Where the Turnstile Gate fits
Controlling people at a boundary where an unattended door would be tailgated: office lobbies, factory gates, site perimeters. Bi-directional flow with RFID or biometric reading means one person passes per authorisation, in the direction they are entitled to go.
Turnstile Gate vs the alternatives
Against a door with a card reader, a turnstile physically enforces one person per credential, which a door cannot. That is the entire argument for it. Against a tripod turnstile, full-height and lobby turnstiles offer different levels of enforcement and appearance. Against a flap barrier, turnstiles are more robust and less elegant, which is why lobbies often choose flaps and gates choose turnstiles.
