Where the RFID Access Control fits
The workhorse of building access: cards or fobs at 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz, reading at a door, a turnstile or a gate, with Wiegand or TCP/IP interfaces so the readers talk to a controller and the controller talks to your network. It suits offices, factories, warehouses and campuses where people need to be let in and the record of who went where matters.
RFID Access Control vs the alternatives
Against keys, a card can be cancelled the moment someone leaves, which is the whole argument. Against biometrics, cards are faster to issue, work with gloves and cost less per user, but they can be lent or lost, so they authenticate the card and not the person. Where that distinction matters, biometric or multi-factor is the correct specification.
Specifying an RFID Access Control
Tell us how many doors and how many users, and whether the system must be standalone or networked. Say which card technology you already use, since 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz are not interchangeable and reusing existing cards saves reissuing everyone. Confirm whether readers need to interface with an existing controller and whether doors must fail open on a fire alarm.
